Strategic alliance with Merial Limited
Imugene entered into a strategic alliance with Merial on 31 December 2008. This agreement was renewable annually by Merial with the payment of various fees.
The agreement gave Merial worldwide exclusive rights to Imugene's Vector vaccine delivery system and other animal health technologies, including sublicense rights to two vaccines, the PRRS vaccine for pigs and the Poultry Productivity Enhancer, both of which have already passed commercial proof of concept at Imugene.
In the first twelve months of the Alliance Imugene received US$2m (AUD$2.9m).
The Strategic Alliance was terminated in January 2010. Merial's preferred work plan for the 2010 phase was not easily achievable under the existing alliance agreement. Merial advised that they wish to continue evaluating and developing the Imugene technology under a new agreement that is more flexible and better suited to their immediate development requirements for the technology.
The terms of any new agreement have yet to be finalised. Imugene is continuing discussions with Merial and several other animal health companies.
